I noticed, coming into this area, that every member is allowed to access these forums. Despite the fact we have no campaign, I feel that members would feel more at home with this site if we make it as close to the original as possible. So naturally, I figured there should be restrictions for who can access what. Here's my suggestions: 1) Identification: We need a way to identify member's alliegences. I suggest that we have each member post there alliegence in their signature. 2) Switching: I believe the old system of changing alliegences is still good. Therefore, I suggest that we allow people to switch only during the first of the month, allowing recruitment threads and so on. Just for old times sake. 3) Monitoring: Of course now that it is so easy to switch alliegences, the monitoring of such things runs off both faith and the faith in other members. Therefore, we must all look out for each other so that we maintain the sense of community. 4) Punishment: Now this is the big question. I don't know how much power the rangers will have, but I do suggest that their are some forms of punishments for those who do not follow these rules. Now I know that the campaign is gone and there's really no point. But I do feel it maintains a sense of community and also keep our former members from leaving. It's for old times sake.

I suppose theirs no harm in this happening... even if they make it just like the Veterans forums here where members of each aliance need a different password to enter that section of the forums

That would make it very difficult to set up at first, right?

I would have thought so but i am not sure because never actually made any attempt at making my own website... besides i think madmat and kain are busy enough at the mo
but within time they might make this happen, we will have to wait and see what the future brings

No, a password wouldn't work, because every first of the month they'd have to think up all new passwords because someone who switched would know the pass of the old and the new allegiance...

I doubt it would be too hard to put a password in, there will either be a 'protected forum' option when logged in as an Admin, or they will be able to copy and paste the coding they've already done for the new Vet's forum.
Then someone in an alliegence could be the CinC and people could message them requesting the password for that alleigence. Obviously they would only be allowed in one at a time.
Then once a month, the passwords could be taken off the forums for a day, and a new one put on the next. The only trouble with this is that it would mean every month the CinC would have loads of people requesting the password.

ahh yes perhaps password not the best idea... anyway perhaps the old way would work
but like i said before this would probably be further down than some things on mat and kains list of 'things to do'

Exactly. That's why for now, I suggest we don't worry about it right now because everyone's pretty busy trying to set up the new site.

People play more than one faction and since there's no campaign then there's no need for secrecy.
This is not TLA, Get over it.

try to remember dead orc that when these posts were posted it was called TLA2 as TLA was still closing at that point
besides kain has said somewhere else that he will be adding password protection to alliance forums eventually anyway

Hey no need to get harsh. Like Red said, at the time TLA was closing. Now that it's not, I see no point for this either. But that's no need to be rude.

I'm not meaning to be rude but without the campaign there is no need for the privatisation of different races. All it does is restricts the amount of people who could help you with an army list or similar question since you will only be a 'member' of one faction. I never was a fan of the factions on TLA, probably the main reason i was never active there. I'd rather this be a decent site than a carbon copy of TLA, even if it was supposed to be TLA2 it'd be better for it to be improved.

It will no longer be that way. Happy? The factions mainly just created a sense of community and belonging within TLA.
