Hello again regular readers of WD. Let me tell you that this months issue is definatley an improvement to WD standards, as last issue was a little dissapointing. With the High Elves (HE) on the cover yet again, you would expect an issue packed full of elves. Well it's not. Sorry to dissapoint HE players but there is one short article covering them which I will discuss later.
News
Firstly there are all the new releases shown here like the Space Marine and Chaos Vinicator available seperatley and a few new Eldar models coming out like the Eldar Autarch. The latest releses from black library are then followed with new books like Desert Raiders and Defenders of Ulthuan coming out this month. Then the latest products from forge world show basically two massive Imperial Guard (IG) heavy tanks capable of taking down Titans. Then finally, some confirmation of the brand new supplement, Serpent Kingdoms which will be released in February with pictures showing Mauhud Raiders and warriors with swrods and blowpipes. New models like plastic Haradrim Raiders and Corsairs of Umbar. New characters like Dalmyr, Fleetmaster of Umbar and new metal models which include Half Trolls, Corsair Arbalesters and the Watchers of Karna. Sounds very exciting as I'm thinking always of starting to collect a Haradrim army, and this might make me do it.
Warhammer 40,000
This is proberly the article I was most looking forward to in this issue with yet another Apocalypse Battle Report. This month see's the Forces of the Imperium which are IG and SM (Blood Angels) attacking an outpost that the Tau Empire must defend. Each side comprimises of 9,000 points each with lots and lots of tanks being used, especially for the IG. Air support has also been included which should liven the gmae up. The Tau alos have a special turret to help defend the three objectives they need to hold. Again I won't spoil the ending for all of you who are planning to get this issue. Let me just say that it was a close one in the end and is a must read. Later on there is the conclusion to the Cities of Death campaign that some of you may have been following. Unlike last month, there are now two scenario's to follow which would be great to play. If only I had a full city do play it on...
The second part to modelling the IG Baneblade continues with the painting taking place this time. As you expect it's shown in great detail and is very helpful for all people planning on painting one.
Lord of the Rings
This month for Lotr sees a brand new campaign being set up which has been especially set up for us; rather than the WD team to play. If you want to play this campaign then I suggest that you should buy this issue as it explains all the rules in full and also includes a two page campaign map which I think you will need. I can't really explain what's included as I would just ramble on and on about rules you don't need to hear. Strongholds and Capitals seem to play a big part here. To be honest it looks a bit like the Mighty Empires expansion with all the hexagons covering the map.
Standard Bearer
As Orks are coming there way in January it does seem obvious that they will be included somewhere in this months issue, with Jervis Johnson explaining the history of the Orks' domintaion throughout the game of Warhammer 40,000.
Painting Showcases
Then a painting masterclass gives a slight breather to the issue with Mark Lifton showcasing all of his fantasticly painted models. I wish I could have the patience like him to paint like that. Then all the Slayer Sword winners of this year are shwon with the UK winning model being a Carnifex which is painted to top standards as well as all the others shown. (If anyone wants to know the other wining models then come fourth).
Warhammer Fantasy
For Fantasy this month there is a modelling workshop on Warhammer Buildings which isn't as in-depth as I would of expected. Then the front cover's HE dragon is explained in full on how to paint this mighty dragon with step by step guides listing all the paints needed to paint it which include many of the Foundation Paints, which I'm sure you might have by now.
Directory and Next Issue
The school league applications are now open so get entering. My friend entered last year and they came second. All the info about upcoming events are then listed. Advance Orders for Orks are now being taken with them coming out on the 12th January. For next issue, ORKS are charging in so expect a lot of Orkish content. For Warhammer Fantasy ther is a Tactica for Flying Creatures and an Eltharion painting masterclass. For Lotr; recreating movie moments from the Lotf trilogy will be instore.(Not sure how that'll work).
Well thats another review over and done with. You deserve a medal if you've read this review from the start. Please keep the positive feedback coming in as it really does help to hear it and helps me write these every month.
