How many people here read the Star Wars novels/comics? Also, what do you like about them?

I've read only a few of the novels, (Cestus Deception, Dark Lord, Children of the Force) but I find them to be quite enjoyable. Never been big for comic books, so I haven't read any of them.

I've read quite a few of the novels, but I'm not sure how many (I'll have to check wikipedia for a full list of them and count the ones I've read and post the total up here). I'd recomend the comics, but I'd have to warn you that the artwork in some of the recent ones has been a bit hit and miss (a couple of issues have had really detailed work in them, and then a couple have had slightly 'cartoony' colourings which is a bit off putting (as are the speech bubles on the covers they experimented with a few months back - fortunatly they've gone back to artwork for front covers).

I haven't read any of the comics but I do check wookiepedia to see whats going on. With the whole Darth Caedus thing, I can see why they did it and I actually think it's a really good idea but I'm getting quite sick of my favourite characters turning evil. This isn't just a Star Wars thing, it's happened in about 5 diiferent programs, book, etc My favourite book would be NJO: Traitor by Matthew Stover but I haven't really liked any of the Clone Wars novels that I've read

It's probably Lucas' fault. From what I've heard it was him who said they had to kill off Anakin because he thought people would mix him up with Anakin Skywalker and he had them kill Chewie because he didn't want them killing off Han, Luke or Leia because as far as he's concerned, after RotJ they all live happily ever after I don't mind Lucas being involved with the EU and the prequal films, I just think that by the time the Prequals came out, the francise had grown beyond him, and he should have been religated to (at most) director, producer and creative consultant, rather than supreme overlord of everything.

Yeah, I'd heard that. I think RA Salvatore, who wrote vector Prime got death threats after Chewie was killed Have you got a favourite Author/novel?

Hmm, haven't really given it much tought. Out of the most recent ones I've read (the last couple of Legacy books) I'd probably say Karen Travis, but that probably has more to do with the fact that she pens the Boba Fett sub-plot which I find more interesting that the main Jedi-come-Sith tries to conquer the galaxy plot.

Timothy Zahn, Matt Stover, James Luceno and Aaron Allston would be my favourite SW authors. I've only read exerpts of Karen Traviss' books but they seem pretty good. Mandalorians aren't really my thing though.

One thing I dislike about the novels is the American spellings, but I'm just nitpicking, and we can't expect them to print one version for America/American-English countries and another for Britain/Queen's English countries.

Yeah that's true, I hate American spelling. British comedies are better too. The Americans just don't get humour, only humor

The one that really annoys me is that they spell aluminium as aluminum, which always make me think of plastic for some reason.
